Leaders hold a powerful responsibility of shaping the organizational culture. How we choose to show up through our actions, behaviours and words all serve as a mirror for our teams.
Recognizing that what how we show up and what we choose to tolerate becomes our new standard; when we model behaviours that reflect our core values and the desired culture, we inspire our teams to embody these principles as well. On the other hand, when we choose to overlook negative behaviours like;
Gossip
Neglecting responsibilities
Lack of inclusivity
Frequently arriving late to work
Disrespectful behaviour
we signal to our team that it's acceptable and whether we realize it or not, we now have set a new tone for our culture and expectations. The longer that we avoid these tough conversations, the harder it is to correct. Burying the head in the sand only allows the behaviour to grow and the trust in leadership abilities to decrease.
